  • What does shameful mean?
    Something that makes you feel guilty or embarrassed.
  • Why is Mr Utterson surprised that Mr Hyde has a key to the house?
    Because it means Jekyll trusts him completely, even though Hyde is strange and unpleasant.

    That Mr Hyde has a key, they have orders to obey him, but he is not often seen and never stays for dinner.

    Because it gave everything to Mr Hyde, even if Jekyll simply disappeared, and he thought something was wrong with it.

    Dark and worried. Utterson feels cold thinking about Mr Hyde in Jekyll’s life.

    A strong box to keep important things; he kept Dr Jekyll’s will inside.

    He is Jekyll’s old friend, but they disagreed about science. Lanyon thinks Jekyll’s ideas became unscientific and foolish.

    He is unfriendly, strange, hard to describe, and has an unpleasant voice and personality.

    Possibly to make it easier to receive Jekyll’s inheritance, or to seem trustworthy.

    They are wearing simple, ordinary clothes.

    To receive someone’s possessions after they die.
  • Why does Mr Utterson call himself “Mr Seek”?
    Because he is searching for Mr Hyde, like in the game hide and seek.
