  • a person whose job is to receive and pay out money in a shop, bank, restaurant, etc.
    Cashier
  • A small dish served as the first part of a meal. This is the first course of the meal. Small portions of food, served either hot or cold. You might decide to skip this course if you are not very hungry.
    Starter
  • The main part of the meal. Medium to large portions of food, served either hot or cold. In the UK, they are usually served with vegetables.
    Main Course
  • These are knives, forks, and spoons used for eating food; also called silverware.
    cutlery
  • A small portion of food. Typically bread, salad, or vegetables in sauce, that you eat with a main meal. They are are often shared with other people eating at your table.
    Side dish
  • A person who buys goods or a service

    Menu
  • The last course of a meal. Typically a sweet dish, such as cake, pudding or ice cream.
    Desserts
  • This is a place where you can get a quick hot meal there, for example burger and chips.

    Soup
  • Already cooked food and is therefore served very quickly in a restaurant.
    Fastfood
  • A small sum of money often given to restaurant staff, for good service.

  • This is a man whose job is to bring the food to customers at their tables in a restaurant
    waiter
  • This is a place that serves lots of different kinds of sandwiches. People usually buy sandwiches and take them to eat in a different place, at work or in the park.

  • This is a skilled and trained cook who works in a hotel or restaurant, especially the most important cook
    Chef
  • This is a place where you can go for a full meal; more expensive than a café.

  • Choosing separate foods in a restaurant rather than having a complete meal
    à la carte
  • This is a place where you can have a cup of tea/coffee and a snack there (something small to eat like a sandwich or a cake). They sometimes serve meals there too.

  • This place serves alcohol and soft drinks (non-alcoholic drinks like fruit juice and lemonade); you can usually have a meal or a snack there too.
    bar / pub
  • A substance, such as salt, that you add to food to improve its taste
    condiments
  • This is a place you take what you want, pay for it and carry it to your table.

  • A meal where people serve themselves food that is arranged on a table.
