    Human activity increases the nutrients in water. The nutrients cause an overgrowth of algae that reduces the oxygen in the water.

    The removal of trees and other vegatation from an area.
  • What is water pollution?
    Water pollution happens when waste or other materials is added to water so that it is harmful to organisms that live in it.
  • What is a one-point source pollution.
    Pollution that comes from one specific place.
  • What causes desertification?
    Livestock overgraze an area, removing all plants.
  • What causes land degradation?
    urbanization, deforestation, poor farming practices (planting the same crop every year)
  • How can we stop soil erosion?
    By planting trees and shrubs, the roots will anchor the soil in place.
  • Describe the nutrient cycle.
    Organic mater is broken down by decomposers into nutrients. Plants take up the nutrients. When animals and plants die, they become organic matter.
  • What is soil erosion?
    Soil erosion is the process by which wind, water, and gravity move soil from one place to another.
