“She insists on treating me like a baby, which I loathe.” What does loathe mean? to like or to hate

“Let us hope so. He takes some pills to fortify himself.” What does fortify mean? strengthen or weaken

Unabashed, “Then I’ll have to stop being a stranger, won’t I?” What does unabashed mean? ashamed or unembarrassed

He goes off into the bedroom. There is a second of appalled silence. What does appalled mean? horrified or unsurprised

Peter is coming from his bedroom, ostentatiously holding a bulge in his coat as if he were holding his cat…. What does ostentatiously mean? proudly or unexaggerated

As he holds it gingerly in his hand. What does gingerly mean? uncareful or cautiously
