  • What does a metal ruler do?
    Two or three decimetres long. It measures in millimetres and sometime in other units too.
  • What does a bar clamp do?
    Clamps parts to the table or holds two parts together.
  • What does a pencil do?
    It is used for marking on paper or wood.
  • A bench press does what?
    Holds parts in position. It is fixed to the table.
  • This tool is great for removing nails, holding or cutting.

  • What does a jigsaw do?
    Used for cutting wood or metal (using a different blade) with a thickness of less than 7cm
  • Name and function?
    Sandpaper! It is used for smoothing down surfaces after filing.
  • This tool holds down parts that need to be bent, cut or hammered. They are also used to bend wires and a specific type are used to make loops?

  • What is this tool and what does it do?
    A Hand Saw is used for cutting wood using long, straight cuts.
  • Spanners do what?
    They are used for tightening or loosening nuts and bolts. The number on the spanner is the length in millimetres of the nut that it should be used with.
  • What is this and what does it do?
    It is a drill. A piece of electrical equipment for making holes in wood or metal (by changing the bit). Drill Benches also exist

  • This tool measures and checks right angles, drawing perpendicular lines, or as a guide for marking and measuring.

  • This tool is for hitting and transmitting force to another part of tool. It can also be used to pull out nails.
    Claw Hammer
  • What is this called and what does it do?
    A Caliper! It measures small lengths (a few millimetres.) Measures inner, outer and depth gauges.
  • This tool is used for tightening or loosening slotted screws and cross-recessed screws - hint, there are two types.
    Flat-blade screwdriver / Philips screwdriver
  • What is this called and what is its function?
    A Retractable Tape! Meausures up to one, two (more common) or three metres.
