  • What is the function of the swim bladder?
The swim bladder controls the depth of the water the fish will swim through.
  • This image shows what scientific process?
    Osmosis
  • Name the 3 types of adaptations
    Behavioural, Structural and Functional
  • What are adaptations?
Adaptations are features and behaviors that allow an organism to survive in its environment.
  • What are the 3 major types of mollusks?
    Gastropod, bibalves and cephalopods
  • Name an example of a cephalopod.
    Squid, cuttlefish, octopus, nautilus
  • What is the operculum?
The flap that allows water to pass through after a fish has swallowed water.
  • Define "behavioural adaptations".
The way an organism behaves or acts, that helps it survive.
  • What type of adaptation is osmoregulation? Explain why.
Functional or Physiological, as they are processes that take place in the body of a fish.
  • Define "functional/physiological adaptations"
Processes inside an organism’s body that help it survive.
  • An egg is placed in distilled water. Will it increase in size, decrease in size, or remain the same size? Explain your answer.
It will increase in size due to osmosis. Water will move into the egg and into the area of lower concentration (distilled water).
  • How many tentacles does a squid have?
    2
  • Name the two categories of fish.
    Cartilagenous fish and Bony fish
  • Define "physical/structural adaptations".
Physical features of an organism (plant or animal) that helps them survive.
  • An egg is placed in glucose syrup. Will it increase in size, decrease in size, or remain the same size? Explain your answer.
It will decrease in size due to osmosis. Water will move out of the egg and into the area of higher concentration of glucose (syrup).
  • Name one characteristic almost all mollusks share.
Bilateral symmetry, Radula and muscular foot/tentacles
