  • "Scared stiff"
    Very scared, ex: When she saw the lion outside of its cage she was scared stiff.
  • "Over my dead body"
    Something that will never happen because we refuse, ex: My child asked me if she could drive my car and I said "over my dead body"
  • "Cold blooded"
    Evil, ex: it was a cold blooded crime
  • "Witch hunt"
    Looking for somebody to punish them, ex: The neighbors were on a witch hunt for vandals... only to discover it was raccoons.
  • "A ghost town"
    A place that is abandoned or empty, ex: the mall was a ghost town when I finished my work  there at midnight.
  • " You' re digging your own grave"
    Do something that causes you harm which is serious, ex: She dug her own grave when she made fun of the teacher.
  • "Smell a rat"
    To think someone is dishonest to you, ex: The mobster in the movie said "I smell a rat" after the police busted them.
  • "Night owl"
    Someone who likes staying up late at night, ex: My husband is a night owl and often stays up past midnight.
  • "Pale as a ghost"
    Looking very white, someone lost colour, ex: I looked pale as a ghost when I caught the flu.
  • "Out of my mind"
    The feeling of going "crazy", ex: 'm going out of my mind with all the papers I need to grade.
  • "Scaredy cat"
    Very timid and scared easily, ex: My sister is a scaredy cat when it comes to haunted houses.
  • "Come back to haunt you"
    Something that gets back to you as a problem or challenge, ex: All that homework I didn't turn in came back to haunt me when report cards came out.
  • "Makes my blood boil"
    Something that makes you very angry, ex: bullies make my blood boil.
  • "Dead tired"
    Exhausted, very tired, ex: All of my teachers look dead tired.
  • "Like a bat out of hell"
    Moving extremely quickly, ex: Scared, he ran out of the house like a bat out of hell.
  • "Stabbed in the back"
    Betrayed by someone, ex: She stabbed me in the back when she told everyone my secret.
  • "Skeleton in the closet"
    A secret or something to hide, ex: Jim has a skeleton in his closet.
  • "You're a monster"
    Someone who is out of control and behaves very badly, ex: When the kids were running around screaming, their mum said "they are monsters today".
