  • What do the ascending and descending tracts do?
    Ascending tracts: Carry sensory information to the brain. Descending tracts: Transmit motor commands from the brain to muscles.
  • What does the lumbar region of the spine do?
    Bears most of the body's weight and allows flexibility, etc.
  • Name the 5 sections of the spinal cord. (5 pts for each correct answer!)
    Cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacrum, coccyx.
  • What two types of matter is the spinal cord made of? What do these two substances do?
    Made of white matter (nerve fibers) that carry signals and gray matter (nerve cell bodies) that process information.
  • What are the three layers of protective membrane that make up the meninges called?
    Dura mater, arachnoid mater, pia mater.

    Spinal nerves branch off from the spinal cord, connecting it to different body parts, relay sensory informtaion, etc.

    Cushions and nourishes the spinal cord.
