SW1: The wars had destroyed much of the continent.

W: Germany and France fought many disastrous wars

W: The creation of the EU opened up free travel within member countries.

W: Countries in the EU have received similar benefits overall since uniting.

SW2: People in Europe decided to unite and start benefiting each other economically

SW2: These conflicts resulted in huge civilian and military deaths

SW1: However power imbalances still exist.

SW1: The last two conflicts included both world wars.

SW2: This was an unprecedented agreement that is not practiced anywhere else in the world!

SW2: While nothing is perfect, one can see that the EU has effectively stopped wars from erupting in most of Europe.

W: Everyone in Europe agreed that these conflicts could not go on.

SW1: Not only could you travel freely, but you could also move to another country entirely!
