  • How can the Earth be divided?
    It can be divided into 4 hemispheres: Southern, Northern, Eastern and Western.
  • What is the Equator?
    The Equator is an imaginary line that is drawn around the middle of the Earth to divide it into the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.

    A globe is a sphere that show the true shape and size of the continents.

    It's an imaginary vertical line that measures distance East or West of the Prime Meridaian.

    The Prime Meridian or Greenwich Meridian
  • Why is the compass rose useful?
    Because the compass rose is used to show how the map lines up with real directions. In many cases maps are printed so that north is at the top.
  • How can we calculate distance on maps?
    We can calculate distance using the scales provided on the maps.
  • What is latitude?
    It's an imaginary horizontal line that measures distance North or South of the Equator.
