  • Judicial process
    Outlined in the Constitution, telling how someone should be treated if accused of a crime.
  • executive branch
    Branch of government led by the president.
  • supreme court
    Part of the Judicial branch. The highest court in the US.
  • Press Secretary
    Person in the EOP who is responsible for communicating with the press and general public.
  • government oversight
    Duty of the legislative branch to make sure people are doing their jobs.
  • Department of Agriculture
    Part of the executive branch. Responsible for keeping our food safe and protects the land for farming.
  • veto
    Power of the president. Decide to not pass a law that Congress has passed.
  • Senate
    Part of legislative branch. Each state has 2 senators to represent them.
  • Department of Education
    Responsible for educating all students.
  • Department of Defense
    Largest department, responsible for keeping our country safe.
  • Department of Justice
    Responsible for making sure the law is enforced. Includes the FBI and US Marshalls.

    When a member of Congress takes a bill and presents it in order to become a law.
  • Cabinet
    Responsible for advising the President. Made up of the heads of 15 big departments.
  • impeach
    Power of the legislative branch to remove the President from office for not doing his/her job.
  • Speaker of the House
    Leader of the House of Representatives. Third in line for the presidency.
  • Separation of Powers
    Each branch has their own power and is balanced with the others.
  • legislative process
    The steps how an idea becomes a bill and then becomes a law.

    Branch of government that writes laws.
  • pardon
    Power of the President to forgive a person of a crime.
  • commander in chief
    Title given to the president as leader of the military.
  • judicial branch
    Branch that interprets the law and is made up of the Supreme Court and federal judges.
  • Department of Homeland Security
    Responsible for protecting our country from terrorism.
  • House of Representatives
    Part of legislative branch. Each state elects representatives based on how many people live in the state.

    A judge. Usually refers to a judge on the Supreme Court.
  • President
    Leader of the country and the military.
  • unconstitutional
    Illegal. Goes against the Constitution.
  • Executive Office of the President (EOP)
    Part of the executive branch. Made up of the White House Staff and keep things running smoothly.
  • Vice President
    Second in command. The main advisor to the President and breaks a tie in the Senate.
