  • Describe the Lithosphere, Asthenosphere, and Mesosphere.
Lithosphere - hard rocky shell. Asthenosphere - flexible part of the mantle, under Lithosphere. Mesosphere - more rigid, under Asthenosphere.
  • How do volcanoes erupt?
Deep within the Earth it is so hot that some rocks slowly melt and become a thick flowing substance called magma that builds up and releases gas - eruption.
  • Why were Oreos the best way to show Tectonic Plate movement?
Each layer represented a different part of Earth and showed how the crust changes and moves.
  • How many hearts does an octopus have?
    3!
  • Name each layer of earth, and give a small description.
Inner core - super hot, 5,400 degrees Celsius and all liquid. Outer core - still very hot and pure liquid. Mantle - dense, hot, and semi-solid. Crust - we live.
  • Revision - describe how an earthquake happens.
Tectonic plates slide against each other and build up energy/pressure. Eventually this pressure/energy becomes too much and is released in Seismic waves.
  • Why do Tectonic Plates move in different ways?
Each tectonic plate has a unique combination of characteristics and local conditions in the Asthenosphere. Therefore, the tectonic plates move in different ways
  • What are the 3 types of Tectonic Plate movements and what do they each do?
Convergent - plates move towards each other, Divergent - plates move away from each other, Transform - always slide past each other.
  • How many Earths can fit inside the sun?
    1 million!
