a story's main idea or insight into life

the all-knowing narrator describes many characters' thoughts, feelings, and actions

a character struggles with an inside force such as an emotion

minor or additional story line that in some what should enhance, clarify, or parallel the main

the narrator is one of the character; the reader is told only what this character knows 

a character who is one dimensional and superficial; can be described in a single sentence
