  • What is the Internet?
    A system of computer networks all connected together through many different ways e.g. satellite.
  • Is there a difference between computer storage and memory? Explain your answer.
    Storage is there even when the computer is switched off e.g. Hard drive. Memory is gone when the computer is switched off – it is temporary.
  • Give a brief explanation as to what is hardware and give an example.
    Hardware is anything you can physically touch in relation to the computer. Mouse, monitor
  • Briefly explain the difference between an operating system and application software.
    OS – what makes the computer actually work - Windows Application software – this enables us to carry out specific tasks eg to type a letter we use MS Word
  • Give a brief explanation as to what is software and give an example.
    Software would be the programmes that we use and the operating systems. They are necessary to carry out specific tasks e.g Excel to do accounts
  • Briefly outline 3 types of storage devices:-
    Memory Stick – very portable. Hard drive – huge capacity but in the computer. Cloud – can access anywhere
  • What is an output device giving an example?
    Le’ts us see the information we have inputted as data into the computer e.g Monitor, printer
  • Expand on the following abbreviations in relation to computer storage and memory KB, MB, GB, TB,& RAM
    Kilo Byte, Mege Byte, Giga byte, Terra byte & Random access memory
  • Outline 4 various ways technology has impacted positively on your personal life.
    On line banking Communicating – skype, e mail etc Online Banking, Job Searching, Paying Bills, On line shopping
  • What is the main difference between a LAN and a WAN and expand the abbreviation for both?
    Local Area Network – confined to certain distance e.g. a classroom. Wide Area Network – over a huge area - Internet
