    They hold the soil in place so wind and water can't move it.

    RIVER.

    cut down trees, smooth out land, dig lakes/ponds, build houses, etc.

    They chew trees until they fall down and make their homes (dams/lodges) with them, which can block water.

    ELEVATION. Mountains are high land and valleys are low land.
