  • A visual representation that tells the order of events that took place in a person's life or history.

  • Words that are next to or underneath a picture or illustration.
    Caption
  • One or two words describing parts of an image.
    Labels
  • This feature helps readers say words correctly.

  • A labeled drawing that shows or explains something
    Diagram
  • Tells a book's title, the author and the illustrator's name, and the publisher.
    TItle page
  • A digital link that you can click while on a computer that will take you to another website.
    Hyperlink
  • A picture that shows the inside of something or the inner layers.
    Cross section
  • A chart that compares data.
    Graph
  • A small picture/symbol that represents something else. It sometimes links to another website.
    Icon
  • A list that shows the chapters or parts of a book along with its page numbers.
    Table of contents
  • This feature divides the text into sections so that the reader is able to locate specific details or information.
    Subheading
  • An alphabetical listing of key words and topics along with their page numbers.
    Index
  • A list of different options/choices you can choose from in order to do something on the computer.
    Electronic menu
  • A picture that has been drawn by hand.
    Illustration
  • A picture taken with a camera that shows how something looks in real life.
    Photograph
  • A small, raised number/symbol following a word or sentence. A matching number/symbol is at the bottom of the page.
    Footnotes
  • A short article or box of text that is separate from the main passage; it usually has a border or box around it.
    Sidebar
  • An alphabetical list of new or important words that tells the meaning of words.
    Glossary
  • Words that appear to be slanted.
    Italic prints
  • Symbols such as small black circles, dots, arrows, etc.
