What are some questions that the writer can ask themselves to create an explanation?
How does the quote support the topic? What parts of it support the topic? Why did I decide to use this topic?
What are some elements that can be analyzed for in a text?
Theme, Fig Lang, Plot, Conflict, Setting, Characters, Symbolism, POV, and any other ideas we see in a text.
What is included in an in-text citation?
Parentheses with the authors last name and page number (Stender 19)
What comes after a quote, but before the period?
An in text citation, or giving credit to the original author.
Why does a quote need an explanation?
Want the readers to understand the writer's thought process of why or how the quote supports the topic.

Quotes or examples from the text, followed by an explanation.
What is a claim?
The point or main idea that is being made in a text.
What is a literary analysis?
Examining a text using inference to find as more meaning or look for ideas that aren't exactly told to the reader.
What is a thesis?
A thesis is what the essay is about. It's usually told in one sentence that is straight to the point.

A theme is the main lesson or idea of the text.
