  • ๐ŸŒป 1.
How are plants like their parents?
  • Name 4 ways plants are like their parents.
(Hint: sunflower, acorn, same flowers, same leaves).
  • โš ๏ธ Important:
When plants bend or change to survive, those changes are not passed to their babies.
  • ๐ŸŒต
They can store water in thick stems.
  • Plants live in many different homes
โ€”dry deserts, rainy forests, windy coastsโ€”and each one has special parts that help it survive.
  • ๐ŸŒต
They have very few leaves or no leaves.
  • ๐Ÿ‘‰ Example:
Cats have kittens, dogs have puppies.
  • Just like you look a little like your mom or dad
, baby plants look like their parent plants.
  • Some
grow in a way that helps them survive bad weather.
  • ๐ŸŒฟ 3.
    How do plants stay safe?
  • Roots always grow downward to find water and food.
No matter where plants live, they need roots!
  • Even if plants look a little different from their parents,
they still keep most of the same traits.
  • For example:
A tree bent by the wind will have normal straight baby trees.
  • How can you tell what kind of plant it is?
(Look at its leaves, flowers, and stems).
  • ๐ŸŒด 2.
How do plants survive in different places?
  • ๐Ÿ‘‰ Example:
An acorn grows into a big oak tree.
  • ๐Ÿ‘‰ Example:
Trees near the coast grow sideways because of strong winds, but they still survive!
  • Rainforest/wet place plants
    like banana trees
  • This is called a trait.
A trait is something you inherit (get) from your parents.
  • ๐Ÿ‘‰ Example:
A sunflower seed grows into a sunflower (same flower shape and petals).
  • What things can change the way plants grow?
(Hint: weather, animals, where they live).
  • Some
grow thorns so animals wonโ€™t eat them.
  • Plants canโ€™t run away,
so they have special ways to protect themselves.
  • Desert plants
    like Joshua trees or cacti

Big leaves help them catch sunlight in the dark, wet forest.
  • ๐ŸŒ
    They have very large leaves.
