  • Your class is having a group discussion you have not said anything during the activity. What should you do next?
    Raise your hand and try to answer or make a comment about the topic/question
  • How can you contribute to a discussion if you don't feel confident in your answer?
    State that you are not sure about the answer
  • How do you know if you are talking too long in a conversation?
    Listener looks bored, starts to not pay attention
  • What should you do if someone interrupts you while you are talking?
    Tell them you are not finished. Ask them to wait until you finish your thought.
  • Why is it important to stay on topic in a group discussion?
    People will be confused/lose interest. You have a short amount of time to complete the discussion.
  • How can you show respect when someone else is talking in a group?
    Stay quiet, listen to them, ask follow up questions
  • How do you know when it is your turn to talk in a conversation?
    The person asks you a question or finishes their thought at pauses.
  • You are part of a big group class activity. You have answered the first three questions that the teacher has asked. What should you do next?
    Wait to raise your hand and answer the next few questions. Give someone else a turn to answer.
  • How can you tell if your story/answer has gone on longer than the listener wants it too?
    People look bored, the teacher asks you to wrap up your says "OK, Ok, good" or ""Thank you, let's move on."
  • How do you know if someone is engaged and listening to you?
    They are looking at you, leaning forward, making comments and asking questions
  • What are some topics that are usually safe to talk about with someone you just met?
    The weather, food, pets, activities/hobbies
  • If a teacher asks for one example, should you give three examples?
    No. The teacher only has time for one example. Giving more examples takes more time and your listeners may get bored.
  • What are some ways to include someone who is quiet or shy in a discussion?
    Give them time to respond. Ask them a question you know they know the answer to.
  • What should you do if multiple people start talking at the same time in a class discussion?
    Everyone stop and wait until the teacher calls on one person at a time.
