A type of writing where the author uses evidence and reasoning to persuade others

The group of people a text is intended for

What is tone?

The author’s or speaker’s attitude toward a topic

What is mood?

The feeling or atmosphere created in a text for a reader- how the reader feels

What is theme?

A universal message about life expressed in a text

What is characterization?

The way an author develops a character’s personality (how they talk, what they do, etc.)

What is conflict?

The struggle between opposing forces in a story

What is setting?

The time and place where a story occurs

What is narrative point of view?

The perspective from which a story is told

What is figurative language?

Language that goes beyond literal meaning (such as metaphor, simile, and personification)
