What is the Cartesian plane?
A two-dimensional rectangular grid for locating position, also called a number plane.
What is a quadrant?
One quarter of the number plane.
What are coordinates?
An ordered pair written in the form (x, y) that states the location of a point on the number plane.
What is the origin?
The point with coordinates (0,0) on the number plane where the x and y axes intersect.
What is a linear relationship?
A set of ordered pairs (x, y) that when graphed give a straight line.
What is the gradient?
A measure of the steepness of a straight line.
What is the gradient formula?
m = (rise / run)
What does a positive gradient look like?
A line goes uphill from left to right.
What does a negative gradient look like?
A line goes downhill from left to right.
What does a zero gradient look like?
A horizontal line.
What does an undefined gradient look like?
A vertical line.
What is the x-intercept?
A point where the line crosses the x-axis and 𝑦 = 0.
What is the y-intercept?
A point where the line crosses the y-axis and 𝑥 = 0.
