any disturbance that transits energy thought matter or empty space
When a wave moves, does the material travel? ex leaf in water
no. The material does not move, the water does.
Where is the crest of a wave located?
The very top of the wave. The highest point.
Where is the trough of a wave?
The lowest point of the wave
What are examples of a medium?
liquid, solid, or gas
What is the amplitude of a wave?
It is the wave height, measured from the resting position to either the trough or the crest.
What is the wavelength of a wave?
The distance between 2 crests or 2 troughs
What is the frequency?
The number of waves produced in a given time.
What are the 4 types of wave interaction?
1. Reflection, 2. Refraction, 3.Diffraction, 4. Interference
What is reflection?
When a wave bounces back after hitting a barrier. ex. light off of snow
What is wave refraction?
The bending of a wave when it passes through a medium
What is wave Diffraction?
The bending of waves around a barrier
What is wave interference?
When 2 or more waves overlap.
What are the 2 different types of Wave Interference?
Constructive and destructive
What is destructive interference?
When the crest of one wave and the trough of another overlap. They cancel each other out
