What is the difference between nation, state, and nation-state?
Nation: group who share common culture, state: control sovereign territory, nation-state: similar culture and control territory.
What is Balkanization?
This is the fracturing of an area due to intense nationalism / ethnic tension.

What is the Great Migration?
Influx of African American people moving to the major cities of the US to find better jobs (after WWII).
How did ethnicity lead to the division of India / Pakistan?
India gained independence in 1947 and Pakistan sought independence due to religious differences.
Give an example of a stateless nation and explain
Kurds, Basques, Quebecois, etc.
Explain the difference between centripetal / centrifugal forces and how they apply to race.
Centripetal (bonds an area) / Centrifugal (tears it apart). Examples will vary.
Explain the concept of white flight?
When white people leave an area due to an increase of other minorities (usually African American)
What is redlining?
An illegal practice where people deny loans to certain people, usually racial based (almost literally draw a red line on a map and those inside are denied).

Hispanic (Southwest / California), African Americans (Southeast / inner cities), and Asian Americans (Hawaii / California)
