What were some challenges during Reconstruction?
Former enslaved people—need jobs, homes, money, rights, education. A lot of the South had been destroyed. People in government had different goals.

Reconstruction was a time period of rebuilding the South and re-admitting states after the Civil War. It lasted 12 years.

Many went into debt and continuously owed more money to landowners. Some were trapped in this cycle.
