Your family always watches "Elf" on TV before Christmas. This year, the power was out when it was on TV. You yell at your parents about the power going out and tell them you hate the holidays.

Do you have a phone or tablet you can watch the movie on? Remember, just because the power went out, doesn't mean you can't still enjoy your traditions.

Every year, your family eats the same foods for the holidays. This year, your parent wants to try new foods, and is using all new recipes. You think the new recipes won't be as good as the old ones.

It's okay to try new things. Who knows..you just might like a new dish! If not, you can ask your mom to buy a few of your favorite foods just incase.

You were excited to see your cousin for Christmas and show her your new videogame. Unfortunately, her mom called to say she was sick and they are staying home. Now you think Christmas is ruined.

Even though you are disappointed, remember that you can see your cousin when she is feeling better.

You wanted a new phone for Christmas, but you got a TV for your room instead. You are really upset about the phone, and you have not thanked your parents for the TV.

Sometimes we don't get the gift that we were hoping for. We can still thank the person who gave us the gift...and hey.. TV for your room?! Nice!

You let a friend or family member play with a gift you received for Christmas. They break it and tell you it was an accident.

Sometimes accidents happen. Instead of getting angry with them, you can accept their apology and let your parent know it was broken by accident.

You are shopping for presents with your mother. The lines are long and it is crowded and loud. You really want to leave but your mother tells you that she has more shopping to do.

Even adults can get tired when they shop at holiday time. Being patient and doing your best not to complain is a very grown up way to act.

Your family is visiting some of your relatives. You are asked to sit down and talk with some adults you barely know.

Think about things that you can say. You can tell them the grade you are in, the school you go to, about sports you play and things you enjoy doing.

You really wanted a certain item and when you open the last of your presents you find that you didn’t get it.

It is okay to feel disappointed if you don’t get something you were hoping for, but it is rude to complain about it.

You really want to open your presents. You are told that you need to wait until all your friends and relatives arrive for the celebration. You know that it might be a long time before they get there.

Sometimes it can be very hard to wait to open your presents. In this case you will probably just have to take no for an answer and wait.

You are going to your grandparent’s house for the holidays and it is a very long drive. You want to stay home and hate being in the car for a long time.

Make up games to play while you drive, like I Spy. Along the way you can look for things like animals or license plates from other states.

You have been at the holiday celebration for a long time and are getting bored. You want to go home. The adults keep talking and don’t look like they are going to stop.

Look for something to do while they talk, like watching TV or playing a game.

Your cousin got a game that is very awesome. You really want to play with it but your cousin keeps playing with it and doesn’t want to share it.

If two people can play the game at one time, ask if you can play with him. If not, give your cousin some time to play the game.

Your relatives are gathered for the holiday dinner. You find out you are supposed to sit at the kid’s table. You think you are old enough to sit at the table with the adults.

Adults usually have different tables because they don’t have enough room to seat everyone at just one table.

Your aunt gives you a present. You open it and it is sweater. You don’t want a sweater. You don’t even like it. You wanted something more fun.

Think about the fact that even though you don’t like the gift it was kind of your aunt to give it to you.
