Next word: condition ----> add the prefix -re and the suffix -ing and now we have...
For example: motion + ed = motioned (motion is the baseword, -ed is the suffix)
We know that affixes (prefixes and suffixes) can be added to base words.
Let's mark up this work together: prediction
So we can now mark these words by circling the -ion suffix within the /sion/ or /tion/ welded sounds.
In the word "impression," the pronunctiation of the base word "impress" changes when the -ion suffix is added.
Other examples: subtraction and impression
/ac/ is the closed syllable and the /tion/ is the welded sound, but to show it's a suffix, we would also circle the /ion/ within the box.
For example, in the word "action," the base word is "act" and the suffix is "ion."
words with the /tion/ welded sound actually have a suffix: /ion/

Next word: vacation
Compare the two sounds with the same final stable syllable: "expansion" "invasion"
/zh*n/ as in the word "confusion."
Remember that /sion/ makes two sounds: sh*n as in the word "tension" and...
Same concept... The first syllable is closed /ten/ and the second syllable is the final stable syllable (sion).
For example: tension
/sion/ can also be found as the last syllable of words.

Exaples of words that have the final stable syllable:

Next word: station (/sta/ is open and /tion/ is the final stable syllable.
Letters-key-word-sound: sion-mansion-/sh*n) and sion-television-/zh*n/
Two new welded sounds (and final stable syllable): /sion/ and /tion/
Introduction of a new kind of final stable syllable: /sion/ and /tion/
