Antoine de Saint-Exupéry was born on
29 June 1900.
He was born in
Lyon, France.
His full name was
Antoine Marie Jean-Baptiste Roger de Saint-Exupéry.
He was both a writer and an
aviator.
He became a pilot during his military service in the early
1920s.
In 1926, he started working for the Latécoère aviation company, which later became part of
Aéropostale.
As an airmail pilot, he transported mail between
Europe and Africa.
He later worked in South America, especially in
Argentina.
Among his famous works are Southern Mail,
Night Flight and Wind, Sand and Stars.
His most famous book is
The Little Prince.
The Little Prince was first published in
1943.
The Little Prince explores themes such as
friendship, love, responsibility and human relationships.
On 31 July 1944, he took off from Corsica on a
reconnaissance mission.
Parts of his aircraft were discovered many years later in the
Mediterranean Sea, near Marseille.
