Define or give an example: Heredity
Passing traits from parents to offspring. A child may have curly hair like a parent because of heredity.
Define or give an example: Offspring
The young made by parents. A puppy is the offspring of two dogs.
Define or give an example: Trait
A characteristic or feature of a living thing. Eye color and plant height are traits.
Define or give an example: Gene
Information in a living thing that helps decide a trait. A gene can help decide flower color.
Define or give an example: Allele
A form or version of a gene. One allele may be for purple flowers and one may be for white.
Define or give an example: Dominant
An allele that shows if it is present. If B is dominant, Bb shows the dominant trait.
Define or give an example: Recessive
An allele that only shows when there are two recessive alleles. If b is recessive, bb shows the recessive trait.
Define or give an example: Genotype
The allele code or letters for a trait. BB, Bb, and bb are genotypes.
Define or give an example: Phenotype
Vhe visible trait you can "see." Brown eyes and blue eyes are phenotypes.
Define or give an example: Probability
How likely something is to happen. A 50% probability means a 1 in 2 chance.
Define or give an example: Factor
Something that helps cause a result. A gene is one factor that affects traits.
Define or give an example: Quantify
To measure or show with numbers. We can quantify a chance by saying 25%.
