he was reading from the Torah (in order to learn)
וְהִגִּיעַ זְמַן הַמִּקְרָא
and time for reading (the Shema) arrived
אִם כִּוֵּן לִבּוֹ
if he focused his mind (he had in mind that he wanted to fulfill the Mitzvah)
יָצָא
he fulfilled the Mitzvah
בַּפְּרָקִים
in between paragraphs
בָאֶמְצַע
in the middle of a paragraph
מִפְּנֵי הַכָּבוֹד
someone you respect (parent/teacher)
מִפְּנֵי הַיִּרְאָה
someone you fear (king/president)
שׁוֹאֵל
to give a greeting
מֵשִׁיב
return a greeting
