Situation: You are video calling a friend abroad. Tell them what you usually do on Sundays, but explain that today is special so you are doing something different.
I usually play football on Sundays, but today I am visiting my grandma.
Situation: You are eating a strange dish at a restaurant. Describe the taste and tell your friend you don't like it or want it (using stative verbs).
This tastes strange. I don't like it. I don't want anymore.
Situation: A police officer asks for your alibi for last night. List three completed actions you did between 8 PM and 10 PM.
I watched a movie, ate pizza, and then went to bed.
Situation: You are telling a ghost story. Explain that you were in the middle of doing your homework when suddenly something scary happened.
I was doing my homework when the lights suddenly went out.
Situation: You are a running coach. Compare how Runner A runs against Runner B, and then say who runs the best on the team.
Tom runs faster than Jerry, but Sarah runs the fastest of all.
Situation: You found a phone and a bag. Ask who owns them, then say the phone belongs to Sarah and the bag belongs to Tom (using possessives).
Whose phone is this? It's Sarah's. The bag is his.
Situation: Your friend invites you to the cinema on Friday, but you already have tickets for a concert. Turn them down and explain your arrangement.
I can't go. I am going to a concert on Friday.
Situation: You are a fortune teller. Predict your friend's future job using a crystal ball.
You will become a famous doctor.
Situation: Your parents ask about your weekend plans, but you aren't sure yet. Tell them two possibilities (e.g., park or movie).
I might go to the park, or I may see a movie.
Situation: Explain school rules: 1. Obligation (uniform), 2. Prohibition (phone), 3. Not necessary (homework on Sundays).
You must wear a uniform. You mustn't use your phone. You don't have to do homework on Sundays.
Situation: You are on a date. Tell the person one activity you really 'enjoy' doing and one activity you 'hope' to do in the future.
I enjoy playing tennis, and I hope to travel to Japan.
Situation: Play a guessing game. Describe a 'Doctor' (person) and a 'Kettle' (machine) using relative pronouns.
It's a person who helps sick people. It's a machine which boils water.
Situation: Ask a friend if they have the experience of eating sushi, and tell them one thing you have never done (e.g. visit Paris).
Have you ever eaten sushi? I have never visited Paris.
Situation: Your mom asks about chores. Tell her you finished cleaning your room one minute ago, but haven't washed the dishes up to now.
I have just cleaned my room, but I haven't washed the dishes yet.
Situation: An interviewer asks how long you have lived in your house. Answer using the year (2015) and the total years (8 years).
I have lived here since 2015. / I have lived here for 8 years.
Situation: Ask a friend if they have seen the new Spiderman movie (general experience). When they say yes, ask exactly when they went.
