You can bend, fold, tear, or cut some things.
These changes make them look different,
but they are still the same thing.

If you fold a piece of paper, it’s still paper.
✂️ If you cut paper, the shape changes,
but it’s still paper.
This kind of change is called a physical change
— it changes the shape or size, but not what it’s made of.

into Something New
Sometimes,
matter changes into something new.
🔥 Example:
If you burn wood or paper, it turns into ash and smoke. That is a new kind of matter.
This is called a chemical change
— the material changes into something different.
🧱 Shaping Clay
You can squeeze, roll, cut, or shape clay into different forms.
It still stays clay
— this is a physical change.
You are not turning clay into something else
you’re just making a new shape!
