Commenting
short phrases that show interest and engagement with the person you are talking to. Examples include "Oh, wow!" "that's cool." "oh no!"
Questions
show interest in the topic of conversation, help give more knowledge about conversation topic. ex. "did you like the movie?" "can you tell me more about that?"
Active Listening
Active listening includes a few things we need to do. looking at or in the direction of the person we are talking to, nodding often to show we are listening etc
Which one is active listening?
looking around the room while someone is talking to us.
looking at our phone while someone is talking
interrupting someone when they are talking
nodding along as someone tells a story
I just told you about a movie I saw over the weekend. What is a good follow up question? to ask?
I don't like the movies.
have you been to the zoo before?
Did you see the movie with other people?
how many chairs are there in the movie theater?
you were telling me about your favorite game- what is a good comment and question I could ask you?

Reciprocal Questions
these are questions that people ask each other. if someone says " how are you?" we can answer, and then ask them the same thing! this shows interest in them.
I walk up to a group of people and they say "hey! how are you?" I respond with
I don't want to talk about it.
I'm good.
how are you guys doing?
I am doing alright! how are you guys doing?
