What is the signal that Helen has to do to know they can enter in the house?
She has to put a light in her sister's bedroom window and leave it open.
Where do they wait and for how many hours?
They wait in the middle bedroom in the dark for three hours.
What does Holmes do to the bell-rope?
He hits the bell-rope hard.
What do they see in Dr Grimesby Roylott’s room?
The metal box is open. Roylott is sitting on a chair and his eyes are fixed on the air-vent. Around his head there is a speckled band. He is dead.
What is the speckled band?
It is an Indian snake whose poison can kill very quickly.
How does Holmes know it is a snake?
He thought it was something that went down the rope. Milk is something that snakes love. Dr Grimesby has easy access to Indian animals.
What is the sound of metal falling? And the whistle?
The sound of metal falling is the door of the metal box. The whistle is to call the snake back.
Why does the snake get angry and attack Dr Grimesby Roylott?
Because Sherlock Holmes hits it and it goes back up the rope and attacks Dr Grimesby Roylott.
