Silent "Gn" and "Kn"

Words for Kids 🤫🔡

Did you know some words have silent letters at the beginning? That means we don’t say the first letter when we read them!

Let’s look at two special kinds of words:

Silent "Gn" Words 🐜

For words that start with "Gn", we don’t say the "G"—just the "N" sound!

Gnat

→ (sounds like "nat") – A tiny flying bug

Gnome

→ (sounds like "nome") – A small garden statue or magical creature

Silent "Kn" Words 🏰

For words that start with "Kn", we don’t say the "K"—just the "N" sound!

Knife

→ (sounds like "nife") – A sharp tool for cutting

Knight

→ (sounds like "night") – A brave warrior from long ago

Knee

→ (sounds like "nee") – The bend in your leg

Explaining the Words

Here are some easy explanations for the words and phrases:
