  • Name a group of metals that is very reactive on the periodic table. Explain why this group is so reactive?
Alkali Metals OR Alkaline Earth Metals. In order to become stable, these metals react violently while donating their electrons.

  • Name a group of nonmetals that is very reactive on the periodic table. Explain why this group is so reactive?
The Halogens. In order to become stable, these nonmetals react vigorously while trying to take more electrons from other atoms.

  • Which group on the periodic table contains all very unreactive elements? Why are they so unreactive?
The Noble Gases. These are unreactive because they are already stable with a full valence shell of electrons and so they don't need to react with other atoms.

  • Out of Li, Be, and B, which element would you expect to have the STRONGEST pull on its electrons? Why?
B (Boron). Include 1 of the following: 1. Because it has the most protons of these. OR 2. Because B has the smallest atomic radius of these.

  • Out of Li, Be, and B, which element would you expect to have the WEAKEST pull on its electrons? Why?
Li (Lithium). Include 1 of the following: 1. Because it has the least protons of these. OR 2. Because B has the largest atomic radius of these.

  • Out of Li, Be, and B, which element would you expect to have the LARGEST atomic radius? Why?
Li (Lithium). Because it has the least protons of these, which decreases how much it pulls on its electrons.

  • Out of Li, Be, and B, which element would you expect to have the SMALLEST atomic radius? Why?
B (Boron). Because it has the most protons of these, which increases how much it pulls on its electrons.

  • Out of Be, Mg, and Ca, which element would you expect to have the STRONGEST pull on its electrons? Why?
Be (Beryllium). Include 1 of the following: 1. Because it has the fewest electron rings and the distance is the smallest. 2. Highest electronegativity.

  • Out of Be, Mg, and Ca, which element would you expect to have the WEAKEST pull on its electrons? Why?
Ca (Calcium). Include 1 of the following: 1. Because it has the most electron rings and the distance is the largest. 2. Lowest electronegativity.

  • Out of Be, Mg, and Ca, which element would you expect to have the LARGEST atomic radius? Why?
Ca (Calcium). Include 1 of the following: 1. Because it has the most electron rings / most electrons. 2. Lowest electronegativity.

  • Out of Be, Mg, and Ca, which element would you expect to have the SMALLEST atomic radius? Why?
Be (Beryllium). Include 1 of the following: 1. Because it has the least electron rings / least electrons. 2. Highest electronegativity.
