Formed by the intersection of two number lines, the horizontal axis and the vertical axis
Coordinate Plane
The horizontal axis on a coordinate plane.
x-axis
The vertical axis on a coordinate plane
y-axis
The four regions into which the x and y axis separate the coordinate plane
Quadrants
The point at which the x and y axis intersect on the coordinate plane. (0,0)
Origin
A set of numbers, or coordinates written in the form (x,y)
Ordered Pair
The x-value of an ordered pair. It represents the horizontal placement of the point.
x-coordinate
The y value of an ordered pair. It represents the vertical placement of the point
y-coordinate
A graph that consists of points that are not connected.
Discrete Graph
A function graphed with a line or smooth curve
Continuous Graph
A set of ordered pairs. {(-1,4), (0,6), (5,2)}
Relation
The set of x values of the ordered pairs in a relation
Domain
The set of y values of the ordered pairs in a relation
Range
Illustrates how each element of the domain is paired with an element of the range
Mapping
A relation in which each element of the domain is paired with exactly one element of the range. (Hint: The x values do not repeat)
Function
A way to name a function that is defined by an equation. (Instead of y=mx+b, replace "y" with "f(x)")
