Exodus means a group of people leaving a place. In the Bible it refers to the Israelites departing from Egypt.

During the famine, Jacob and his family moved to Egypt, where one of Jacob’s 12 sons, Joseph, was managing the crops and land for Pharaoh.

The Israelites were fruitful and multiplied, they were mighty and the land was filled with them. The new Pharaoh was scared that they would fight against them.
