Teachers wants you to get working on it right way because it's more work that you can do in a small amount of time and they want you to get a good grade.
"Can everyone check the bottoms of their shoes?"
Teacher wants you to look to see if you have dirt (or something else) on the bottom of your shoes and if you find something, clean it.
"It's getting close to the end of the quarter. You might want to check your grade."
Teacher wants you to make sure all your work is turned in and you have a good grade.
"I can always make it homework."
Teacher wants you to work on the assignment at school.
"I need to be able to know it's your paper in order to give you the grade."
Teacher is suggesting that people have been turning in their work without names on them and they want you to check to make sure your name is on your paper.
