When do you use the "tu" form?
one person only, singular, Informal, casual, with someone you know, your age or younger, a friend, a family member
When do you use the "vous" form?
more than one person, plural, polite, formal, to show respect, someone older than you, someone you don't know, multiple people, friends, family members

To talk about people in general. Nothing like it in English. Could be used as we, you, they, one...
When do you use "ils"?
For multiple people, could be males only, or a mixed group of males and females
When do you use "elles?"
For multiple females only. If there is a male in the group it reverts to "ils"
