What is an organism?

What is a species?
A species is a group of organisms that can mate with each other and produce offspring that can also mate and reproduce.
All the members of one species living in a particular area are referred to as a
population
What is a community?
All the different populations that live together in an area make up a community

What can cause a population's size to increase?
more births than deaths; more immigration than emigration.
What does emigration mean?
Emigration means leaving a population.
An environmental factor that causes a population to stop growing or to decrease in size is a
limiting factor
Limiting factors include:
food and water, climate and weather, space and shelter.
In an ecosystem, organisms play the energy role of either
a producer, consumer, or decomposer
