  • You are at the store and see a pretty girl. You start saying hi and asking her personal questions like "What's your name?" Is this expected or unexpected? How does the girl feel? What is she thinking?
    Unexpected. -- The girl feels uncomfortable and scared. -- She is thinking, "I don't know this man. Why is he talking to me?"

  • You are having a conversation with someone. You keep asking the same question over and over. Is this expected or unexpected? How does the person feel? What are they thinking?
    Unexpected. -- The other person feels confused and frustrated. They don't want to talk to you. -- The person is thinking, "Why is he saying the same thing?"

  • You are talking to someone about what they did on the weekend. Suddenly you ask an off-topic question like, "Where's your husband?" Is this expected or unexpected? How do they feel? What are they thinking?
    Unexpected. -- They feel confused and uncomfortable. -- They're thinking, "He's weird... why isn't he listening to me? That's not what we're talking about!"

  • You are talking to someone and suddenly start making weird noises. The person you're talking to says, "What's wrong?" You keep making weird noises, so they walk away. Is that expected or unexpected? Why?
    It's unexpected because it gives the other person weird thoughts about you. People don't want to spend time with people acting weird, so they will walk away.

  • You are talking to another person about their favorite pizza. You look at their face and listen. When they are done talking, you say "That pizza sounds delicious. What's your favorite pizza restaurant?" Is that expected or unexpected? Why?
    It's expected to look at the other person's face, listen, and make comments and ask questions about the SAME topic.

    It's unexpected behavior because it's none of your business. That's personal information.
