2nd step in the PCR reaction when the short DNA molecules called primers bind to a complimentary strand of the target deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) or ribonucleic acid (RNA) that to be copied. This happens at 55-65°C.

Short, single-stranded segments of DNA that are designed to be complementary to the beginning and end of the target sequence that will be amplified.
