What is the purpose of the chalazae?
It keeps the yolk in place. This keeps the embryo from getting bruised as the egg is turned and keeps it getting perfect temperature, moisture, and nutrients.
What is the purpose of the shell membrane?
They make sure that good things like oxygen get in and that bad things like bacteria stay out.
